On December 10th 2020, Spectris reached an agreement to sell its Brüel & Kjær Vibro business to NSK, for a headline value of €180 million. The transaction is in line with Spectris’ strategy to simplify and focus its portfolio.
NSK is a global organisation researching, designing, and manufacturing Motion & Control solutions essential for mobility and industrial applications. Founded in Japan in 1916 as a manufacturer of ball NSK bearings, NSK is today the top supplier of bearings in Japan and is the third largest supplier in the world by market share. NSK have a portfolio of products and technologies that enhance automotive performance and industrial productivity whilst reducing energy consumption to unprecedented low levels. In the early 1960s NSK initiated a strategy to expand outside Japan, and now employ over 30,000 people in more than 200 business locations across 30 countries, alongside a vast network of joint ventures and partnerships, in all corners of the world.
As part of their long-term strategic plan, NSK identified the market need and opportunity for Condition Monitoring. NSK established a Condition Monitoring System Development Center in April 2019 to help customers manage the health of their equipment machinery. To accelerate this initiative to become a global leader in Condition Monitoring, NSK decided to acquire B&K Vibro.
