Vibration Frequency Analysis

Vibration analysis, the most important condition monitoring function for detecting and diagnosing typical machine faults, is primarily focused on frequency analysis. It is difficult to identify many types of emerging machine faults in the time domain, so time signals (displacement, velocity, or acceleration) are converted using a Fourier transform into a sum of sine waves of different frequencies, where each one represents a frequency component. A spectrum is a collection of all the frequency components in a plot. Frequency analysis is used for detecting machine faults such as unbalance, misalignment, bent/bowed shaft, mechanical looseness, bearing faults, gearbox faults, etc.
