Cybersecurity is more important than it has ever been. Many advancements in technology push companies to reconsider their cybersecurity strategy. In this day and age, it’s critical for asset managers to source components that are proven to be cyber-secure and to work closely with their IT groups to ensure all systems are up to the latest cybersecurity standards.
NERC (North America Electric Reliability Corporation) develops and enforces standards on cybersecurity in the energy industry. If companies that fall under these regulations do not comply, they can incur heavy fines.
Currently, B&K Vibro has products in the nuclear energy industry that fall under NERC regulations. Therefore, compliance is needed for our condition monitoring solution.
In the podcast interview, Jonathan Fox, Senior Technologist explains: “We do this by sending data across an Owl data diode to an OSI Soft PI System. A data diode is a one-way network communication device that physically isolates critical infrastructure by supporting a data transmitter on one side, and a data receiver on the other. The PI System provides remote access to historical and live condition monitoring data that is then used for machine healthcare. As a result, the data diode isolates critical infrastructure from the outside world.“

That’s why all of us; suppliers, customers, and service providers, must remain vigilant.
