China is the worlds leading producer of steel. Although, the steel is primarily used for internal consumption to meet the country’s growing demand. Brüel and Kjær Vibro has had much success with condition monitoring for steel production in one of the plants in Southern China.
The plant’s maintenance department selected a predecessor of the VCM-3 system from B&K Vibro to meet their monitoring needs. The system integrates with the plant’s SCADA system. The plant uses the SCADA system as its vibration monitoring server. The SCADA system also includes a fleet monitoring function. This function gives an overview of all the monitored machines in their machine groups, which helps plan maintenance more cost-effectively. Occasionally, someone will perform a spectrum frequency analysis. For that, someone can use the Vibrosuite WTG Analyzer software from B&K Vibro. This software enables people to do the work remotely as well.
Since the installation of the system, the plant has achieved several benefits. A couple of benefits achieved are a reduction in IT infrastructure, the ability to perform remote diagnostics anytime, and finally, fleet monitoring capabilities. You can say condition monitoring for steel production is going well.
