##Greeting## ##Name##,
Summer begins on 21st June and we are publishing the 4th issue of our Newsletter.
The Hannover fair provided us with many new stimuli and the prospect of many interesting projects, clearly confirming that our customers appreciate our broad product range from portable instruments through single-channel electronic monitoring instruments to multi-channel protection and diagnostic systems.
Our current Newsletter, the last before the summer break, has as its central theme of interest „portable measuring instruments“. We’d like to familiarise you with the functionalities of our 3-in-1 Vibrotest 60:
- Data collection
- Machine diagnosis
- Balance
all combined in a handy measuring instrument.
Our powerful and user-friendly xms data base and diagnosis software can be employed for professional evaluation and analysis of the vibration signals and process variables measured with Vibrotest 60.
A new and important topic in our Newsletter character is the spectrum of installation accessories for the professional installation of measurement electronics and sensors.
With each further issue we introduce to you components from our industrially-compatible installation accessories.
I wish you a beautiful summer and memorable holidays and much pleasure and interest with reading this issue of Newsletter.

xms Software
|
The demands of our customers to collect data, carry out on-site machine diagnosis and field balancing using only one instrument have been clearly fulfilled by our Vibrotest 60 portable measuring instrument. Vibrotest 60 simplifies these functions in one hand-held instrument. In the data collection operation, machine faults are quickly recognised by the Vibrotest 60 in combination with the xms evaluation and analysis software.
Current measurements which deviate from stored reference measurements according to defined rules, lead to an alarm initiation. The highlighted machine can then be examined with the same instrument using the analyser function, in order to identify damaged machine components. Typical errors such as unbalances, misalignment, gearbox faults, damage to rolling-element bearings, belt flutter, etc. can be reliably recognised and objective maintenance measures can be planned and carried out.
The procedure is similar to that used in medical practice: First, recognition of the symptoms of the illness, in this case during the data-collector operation (Vibrotest 60 + xms). Thereafter carry out a diagnosis to decide on the appropriate action to take and thus restore full and normal functional capability. In addition machine faults can be directly eliminated. An extremely high % of all machine vibrations can be attributed to unbalance. A powerful and advanced balancing algorithm has been implemented in the Vibrotest 60. The technician is guided through the entire balancing routine by logical and user-friendly menus. This is true of both the single-channel and dual-channel balancing programmes with a number of useful sub-routines to make balancing even easier.
Of particular interest is the “balancing with prognosis” routine which significantly reduces the balancing time and leads to outstanding balancing results.

The right vibration sensor for your task!

You need ATEX, we got the right sensor! |

ATEX-Sensoren ASA-06x |
Measurement in combustible atmospheres with acceleration sensors
Inflammable materials in the form of fluff, fibres or dust can, together with
oxygen, form a combustible atmosphere. Typical danger areas develop for example in refineries, paint shops, cleaning equipment, mills or storage areas for meal products.
Within such Ex-areas vibration monitoring of production plant requires a special certification (EC design inspection certificate) of the used sensor system. Depending upon the danger potential, the zones 20, 21 and 22 are differentiated. Applications in zone 22 were covered up to now by our vibration velocity sensors.
The new ASA-06x sensor series now allows employment of constant current power for acceleration sensors in zone 22 and 21. For more detailed information please contact our
field representatives. |

Installation accessories |
|

|
With the installation of new monitoring systems and within the range of retrofits, practice shows that only the use of suitable, industrially-compatible installation accessories allows a perfect operation of the machine monitoring devices. The selection of accessories for the sensor mounting and the laying of cables require special attention.
The planning expenditure necessary for this task can be substantially reduced by the use of co-ordinated standard accessories.
Brüel & Kjaer Vibro has therefore designed a special accessories programme in the interest of efficient installation practice.
The correct installation accessories
- Simplify the mounting and adjustment of all components,
- protect against mechanical damage and environmental influence and
- reduce signal falsification and disturbance of the measured signals.
This includes, in addition to sensor holders, cable feed-throughs and protective housings, also components for operationally-secure laying of signal and connecting cables. |

Special attention is valid today for the AC- 101 sensor holder:
The universal sensor holder AC-101 allows secure mounting and adjustment of non-contacting displacement sensors of the series SD- , DS- and IN-..., which have to be installed through a machine casing. The sensor holder consists mainly of an adjustment spindle which leads through the machine casing. The displacement sensor is screwed into the adjustment spindle and the sensor cable is fed through the spindle. The adjustment spindle allows accurate adjustment of the sensor to the measurement track, whereby the displacement sensor is not rotated during adjustment. When the adjustment spindle is installed according to the mounting instructions, loss of oil and other media from the machine casing is efficiently prevented.
This sensor holder offers many advantages:
- Universal length adjustment is adaptable to installation at any location in the machine.
- Only one sensor type can be used for all locations because the individual adaptation is done by the sensor holder.
- Through clever adjustment of the sensor holder, sensors can be exchanged without requiring a new position adjustment.
Illustration with junction head AC-104
- The AC-104 serves for protection of the sensor cable connection. Protective conduit with fittings can be directly connected to the junction head.Justierspindel mit Verschraubung

Encyclopaedia of vibration technology
For communication in a field of activity like vibration measuring technology it is important to always use the same designations with the same meaning.
The available “Lexicon of vibration technology” represents an attempt to arrange the subject descriptions, characteristics and definitions for the extensive field of activity of vibration measuring techniques, as well as the traditionally bordering fields of activity, in more compact, alphabetical form. |
