Safety Monitoring

Modern industrial machines are important production assets operated by computerized control systems.
Mechanical faults due to fatigue, stress, wear or incorrect operation may cause these machines to break down unexpectedly. The consequential losses resulting from this are not just for repairing the machine and lost production, but could also include:

  • Personal injury
  • Environmental damage
  • Secondary damage to other machines

It is therefore crucial to minimize the risk of any consequential damage by shutting down the power to the machine before a catastrophic failure occurs.

A safety monitoring system automatically detects changes in the broadband and narrow-band vibration measurements, compares them to pre-defined limits, and then immediately shuts down the driving machine if the vibrations exceed the limits. To do this, a safety monitoring system has to be accurate, reliable and robust.
