Machine monitoring in hydro power stations, like pump-storage and run-of-the-river stations, requires an entirely different approach to conventional power stations. This is especially true in the case of pump-storage stations, where the machine has the following distinct operating regimes (machine states):
Each of these operating regimes (machine states), has a corresponding influence on the machine's vibration behaviour. Using a binary signal a specific operating regime (machine state) is automatically recognised by the monitoring system.
Severest machine loading occurs during the transition between operating regimes. Therefore these are of major interest for machine condition analysis. Binary signals, or manual control, automatically switch the monitoring system, and the raw signals from vibration sensors during the transition provide measurements for evaluation. Patent is pending for this operating regime (machine state) monitoring using reference comparisons. |
